Jorge Restrepo (about the Artist).

Jorge Restrepo was born 1961 in Cali, Colombia. His artistic life began as a youth in a Jesuit school in Medellin. When Jorge Restrepo was 10 years old he entered an art academy run by the school; its teacher was brother Gabriel Duque, who had studied plastic arts. Duque immediately recognized that Jorge Restrepo would become an artist, and Jorge drew and painted from that time on. For several years Jorge Restrepo painted the backdrops for school plays, and conducted school expositions, among them a review of the works of Michaelangelo that included copies made in pencil and oil. By the time he was 16 he decided that art would be an activity of absolute freedom in terms of specific goals, and that he would pursue other professional studies, in addition to art.

Jorge Restrepo has always felt the artist in him – collecting art, visiting museums, painting and creating objects in various phases of his life – and principally – thinking as an artist.

Up until 2002 Jorge Restrepo had restricted exhibiting his works (often, new works repainted over already-used canvases of his earlier paintings) to family and friends. Jorge is Agronomist graduated from Zamorano, Honduras. Master in Public Administration, Harvard University, USA; Master in Business Administration, Universidad ICESI, Colombia.

 

A personal note....

I first started corresponding with Jorge Restrepo via the internet. On his travels he came to London with his two beautiful daughters. We had dinner and good conversation. I really love Jorge Restrepo's work and strongly believe that his artistic heart and mind matter. I am proud to say that I have 5 Jorge Restrepo drawings in my private collection.
