Ladouceur and Merton Intersection (Freezing Rain). oil on canvas. 26 x 42 inches. Price: $1800.
I had to work very fast in the final stages of this painting.
There was freezing rain that was falling onto the painting.
It rained for the last 15 minutes while painting this work. So I suddenly stopped. Done.
Wet, cold, going home. Done and Done.
Fuck it. Standing out in the cold. Freezing rain. Paint. Paint. Paint.
It is what it is. This painting can not be copied. I love the loose nature of painting outside with Mother Nature.
This is the exciting element that enters into the art of painting outside.
You experience the landscape. Your canvas reflects conditions of what you are painting.
I worked on this painting from November to Feburary 2011.
This intersection is a few feet outside my studio door.
I would move my easel, palette, and paints outside and paint outside during the night.
The winter was very difficult... there was too much snow on the road. I could not see the pavement.
Wishing to avoid the bottom half of the canvas being too white and not connected to the sky. I had to delay painting some nights.
