For months I prepared myself for doing this painting. The location was in front of the US Embassy and there is a clear view of The Canadian House of Parliament Peace Tower.

There is a poem at the bottom of this page that I would like to share with you.

Thank you

Patrick

Chaim Soutine

While painting I was thinking about Chaim Soutine’s work.

His painting of pheasants, fish, chickens, and other dead animals. These works of art by Soutine for me redefine the meaning of still life.

Due to the fact that I ran out of white and black paint the painting was transported back to the studio an hour or so later.

Study for The Parade 5 - Fall 2006.

Titled: Under Yellow

a man with one arm and
no legs sits in a wheel chair

in the corner of the room
under a yellow lamp

the T.V. is on mute - images
flash across the night sky

bombs and guns
in his head explode

he was not a suicide bomber
that walked into that restaurant

he was not fighting for peace
and these are not suicidal thoughts

those were not his legs
arms, head, organs

that was not his sister that
lay in pieces on the street

that was not red blood
that burned like gasoline

the war is over
over and over again

the man continues to try
to fall asleep.

Patrick,

As usual your artwork continues to inspire me. I wrote a song while I had one of your paintings as a wallpaper on my computer. Your paintings reveal a lot of truth, and what got me thinking was the little child in your painting. What happened to innocence? Those man, puppet masters, standing high in the building, these men, in my eyes, are political and corporate entities that dominate our world today. One side you have the Government, and on the other the Bank.

I related your work to Peter Pan. Whatever happened to the child who never wanted to grow up? The child who wanted to spend all eternity having fun, and playing games died along time ago. The world is too focused on the future and is forgetting the purity, and innocence of it all.

You can hear the latest song at http://www.myspace.com/magnus -- and you will find your work attached to the song.

Miss you dear friend, and I hope all is well!
