Plant Eaters: (1997) Surrealist Art
I have always felt an uncertain amount of admiration for the artist who paints traditional still lifes filled with vases, oranges, and flowers. Unfortunately, I just cannot bring myself to do such work. For the clock-work of my brain beats a different drum. This is what led me to paint the Plant Eaters - my still life, my muse.
It was winter and the flowers in the garden were all dead. What great scupltures this series would have been if I have the resources to manipulate this series in bronze. Unfortunately I was very broke and my studio was a run down garage.
I had purchased my nephew Tyler a chess board for Christmas and before his bedtime I would teach him how to play. This I hope will give some insight into the inspiration behind the composition.
