This small but significant painting by Raphael appealed to me for several reasons: the vivid colors, lines of sticks and crosses, how Christ alone looks at the viewer, and the yellow blue sky line.

All the cloths are so vivid, radiant, clean white horse, bright yellow robe, sparkling blue garments, and polished red flag and stockings.

Everything and everyone is so clean and colorful. It seems so ironic to color the walk of Christ's death. This created an argument inside myself. Raphael's technical ability is outstanding. His work seemed like a lie to me. The treatment of the color and the handing of the paint did not reflect the subject, the atmosphere, nor the mood. I felt his painting was completed to please the church rather than express the truth.

The dimensions of the small work 24.1 x 85.1 cm. I had some left over wood from building a roof in our back yard. So I cut up the remaining wood and managed to get four panels with the same measurements as Raphael's work.
