The Roots Series is an abstract landscape painting. The focus of the painting is interpretation of the roots, soil, earth erroding, the ants making homes in the ground with the worms in the brain.

This above painting was completed March 16th 2002. It was raining from the minute I woke up. Erika my wife had to go to work. Desperately needing to paint. I pulled out some plastic to protect the carpet. And completed this painting outside the bathroom. Sadly I regret to say that I have been painting in the backyard of our property for 14 months now. It has been two winters now. And to be honest it has been hard. It was the first time I had ever painted inside the house. Erika would have killed me (understandably so). But nothing was damaged.

Last year I sold £13,400 of paintings in the space of a few weeks. We had enough money to purchase a property in London. And now we are home owners, with a beautiful two bedroom flat, large reception, bathroom, kitchen and small backyard. The down side to purchasing a property was that it eliminated all my savings. So I was not in a position to afford a studio and purchase a property. So I let go of the studio and have been painting in the backyard under the sky with an easel. All the paintings in the last year have been completed outside... with an exception to a dozen or so that have been painted while I have been painting at my friends place Scott Swager.

Never stop painting. Over the last 14 months I have deeply enjoyed painting outside. I have felt the wind, the insects, all the natural elements... and I really feel that this Roots painting captures the experience.
