| Begin Street (Middle to late Oct 2005).
It was raining, windy and cold this night. The fall season was rapidly coming to a close. Four days after painting this work the tree had lost all its leaves and was bare naked, skeletal. The fall season is very rushed in Ottawa. I wished to complete more paintings in this season, but I had to fix our property / home for the winter. The bulk of September was spent fixing the driveway and early October was spent building a large number of wooden paintings frames, stretching and priming the canvases. Next year I will position myself to line up the autumn season. The palette really explodes into color. I do not enjoy summer painting in Ottawa. Summer is not my time of year to paint out doors, there is too much sun, heat, and bugs. Insects are a painter's pest. My skin burns, you need to drink a lot of water, and thus urinating becomes an issue with so many people being outside. Begin Street appealed to me for geometric reasons. The triangle roof,
box house, vertical telephone pole, horizontal apartment block in the
background, telephone wires
all in contrast to the organic shaped
tree. The street light shinning down on this feathered tree. Something
about this location communicated to me. |

The substructure that appealed to me.
