Patrick John Mills (the artist's) Private Collection:

Over the years there have been many works that I would have loved to have kept.  But being young, little money, and desperately trying to survive as a painter I found that I had to sell my favorite work in order to keep painting.

Sunflower Man (Encounters with Vincent van Gogh). oil on canvas. 10 x 12 inches. Spring 2001.

Over the years I have been fortunate to sell decent amounts of work and finally been a position where I could afford not to sell particular works if I wished. But over the years I have have developed or conditioned myself to not grow attached to paintings but rather the act of painting, and that is why I have such a small private collection.

It is the first painting I have decided to put into my private collection. At the moment it is hung at the bottom of the stairs next to the door that leads out to the back garden.  It is titled: Sunflower Man (Encounters with Vincent van Gogh). It is a ghost like portrait... a sunflower petal crown of thorns.

Loving art and some of the artists I have meet over the years I have started to purchase a small number of works from various artists that I feel are gifted and committed to their passion
