Painting in the Backyard: 'This is Modern Art' - (Dec 26th 2000)

This is Modern Art - Never Stop Painting...
It was Dec 26th 2000. It was pretty cold outside. The light was bouncing off the snow and the rays of light were so fresh and clean. I knew that I had this painting stored in my second bedroom, and for the past ten months I was not completely satisfied with the glazing, nor the spectrum of colors. So I decided to rework it.
The painting is titled: Willow World. Oil on linen. 38 x 78 inches. (Feb 2000 - Dec 26th 2000). It may look dark blue and white, but when you see it in the flesh with proper lighting the sap green, cobalt blue, burnt umber, purple, magenta, and three different pigments of blue will filter out.
Motivation... sometimes you wish you could turn creative energy off like an alarm clock and go back to sleep. Unfortunately days off do not exist when you are an artist. You can not sleep when you need to express something. So you install flood lights in your backyard so that you can paint in the middle of the night. Sometimes you wish you could have a vacation from yourself... but you can't. I am extremely fortunate to have a wife that loves, excepts, understands, and tolerates me. Erika made me hot chocolate several times on this particular day.
